Terrie Silvermans Life Stories Performance party
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH, AT 7:30 PM
Celebrating the giving and receiving of stories, featuring storytelling, solo performance, prizes, audience participation and a matzo brie breakfast.
Following
the Los Angeles World Storytelling Festival, local literary treasure Beyond
Baroque presents Artist-in-Residence Terrie Silverman showcasing a retrospective
of brave, moving and often hilarious stories from the past four years of her
Life Stories Performance Workshop. Stories include growing up in Nazi Germany,
unaware of being Jewish; fear of having sex, convinced the 'private part'was
broken after running into a post at eleven; and discovering being pregnant
is horrible and hysterical.
In addition, the audience will be led through a creative writing exercise involving a fortune cookie, with a select few chosen to present their stories on-stage. Party prizes include a Life Stories Workshop session, a writing consultation, clothes from the evening's performers and the grand prize-- a Matzo Brie breakfast with the Artist-in-Residence and her mother.
ABOUT THE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Performance Artist and poet, Terrie Silverman, MFA, began teaching the Life
Stories Performance workshop in 1999. Since then, hundreds of people have
taken the workshop, including many first time writers. Some of the participants
have had one-person shows produced in theatres and festivals in California
and nationwide, have been featured on NPR (National Public Radio) and published
in local newspapers and literary journals. Ann Randolphs Squeeze
Box won best solo show from the L.A. Weekly Theater Awards and
the Ovation Awards. Brooksfilms (Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft ) is producing
Squeeze Box Off-Broadway and has optioned it for a motion picture.
